The Expendables (2010)

Bad Ass. Yes, you heard me correctly. Bad Ass. That's the best way I can describe The Expendables.

Sure, it's a violent, over the top action flick, that doesn't break any new ground in storytelling. Who cares? Look at the cast. It's a "Who's Who" of movie macho. You've got Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Rambo), Jason Statham (The Transporter), Dolph Lundgren (Universal Soldier), Jet Li (Kiss Of The Dragon), Terry Crews (The Longest Yard), WWE's Steve Austin, UFC's Randy Couture, Eric Roberts (Best of the Best), Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2), David Zayas (Dexter), Gary Daniels (Fist of the North Star), and cameos from Bruce Willis (Die Hard), and Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Terminator).

Read that list again. Now, go change your underwear.

Here's the basic setup: Barney Ross (Stallone) is the leader of an elite mercenary group, that is hired by the mysterious Mr. Church (Willis), to overthrow a South American dictator. While scouting the island, Ross, and Lee Christmas (Statham) meet with their contact Sandra (Giselle Itie), who has ties to the man they are there to eliminate. They are discovered, and forced to make a quick exit.

Not to give too much away, but of course, they go back. There's no major plot twists here. That's not why you watch a movie like The Expendables. You want to see explosions, and gunfire, and someone's fist in someone's face. It's undeniable. This movie delivers big time. You've got to be impressed by Stallone's ability to assemble such an amazing cast, and still be able to pull off such an entertaining movie. At 64 years old, he also proves that age isn't relative to kicking ass.

Watch with a friend. High-fiving yourself isn't the same.

Rated R, Runtime 103mns
